Headmaster Short listed for Headmaster of the Year Award
The School is delighted to announce that the Headmaster, Alan Whelpdale, has been shortlisted for 'Headmaster of the Year' in the Leicester Mercury School Awards.
The Headmaster was nominated by members of staff who felt that he had done so much in a short time to inspire the girls, involve the community and create scholarships for families who may not normally consider an independent school.
In less than two years of his time at School, pupils have met a Dame, an Ambassador, a President and the Education Secretary. As well as visiting many schools in the community, he has secured funding for local primaries to access the School laboratories for science lessons after school, run by School staff. He has also instigated parents' evening classes, old girls' reunions, visits to local care homes and linked with local universities to train new teachers. Five new funded scholarships to help bright girls were secured by Mr Whelpdale in order to benefit those who would not normally consider independent schools. This is particularly important to the Headmaster who passionately believes that education changes lives. He said, 'I am thrilled and honoured to be on the shortlist for this prestigious award so early in my Headship at LHS. I have many more ambitions for my school.' The Awards Ceremony is on June 24 in The City Rooms.
