Debating Skills Workshop
Sixth Formers learn new debating skills ready for the competition season.
On the 12 October, Mrs Brookes took four Sixth Form students to a Debating Skills Workshop at what is believed to be Shakespeare's old classroom in Stratford Upon Avon. The session was run by an Oxford University student who is also a judge for the Oxford Schools Debating Competition, which the School is entering. The session was excellent and the girls found it to be very useful. It gave them a valuable insight into exactly what judges look for and the girls are now excited and slightly nervous about the competition itself. In order to prepare them further, in addition to the very well attended weekly debates that take place in school on a Thursday lunchtime, they will also attend sessions on Monday lunchtimes with Mrs Paul, Mrs MacKenzie and Mrs Brookes to give them additional opportunities to prepare debates in 15 minute timed sessions. The School is also hosting friendly debates with local schools in December to prepare for the competition.
