Y7 and 8 Foreign Language Christmas Card Competition
Lots of entries for this clever competition which encourages pupils to explore different countries and their languages.
The Languages Department involved members of staff as well as visitors during Open Evening, in the judging of hand crafted Christmas cards, produced by Y7 and 8. They were all entries in a competition, run by Routes into Language, which is designed to encourage the girls to explore and think about new countries. The overall winner for best design was a beautiful blue sparkly one by Carmel Cain in 8S. The judges also chose, for Language content, Amna Jussab's. Congratulations to both girls. Mrs Wheeler, who organised the competition, was very pleased with the high numbers of entries.
All the entries have been sent to Aston University, and entered into this regional competition. The winning one will be used as a digital Christmas Card this year. Madame Soto, Head of Modern Foreign Languages said, '"As a MFL Department we feel strongly that encouraging our pupils to work independently outside of the classroom is a guaranteed way of developing budding linguists. A competition such as this, ensures that our girls research another language, country and its customs, as well as develop their artistic or creative skills. Knowing that the winning entry will be used for the promotion of younger learners in Moderns Languages in the Midlands, makes our girls aware of the world outside of school life. We were most impressed by the interest shown and the standard of entries. Bravo les filles!"
