Y10 - 13 meet MEP

Girls meet inspiring women MEP for East Midlands.

We were very pleased to welcome MEP Emma McClarkin to LHS recently.  She spoke to Years 10, 11 and 12 about her role as one of the five MEPs who represent the whole of the East Midlands.  This seems to involve a lot of travelling, indeed, she arrived with her suitcase, and after the talk had a train to catch to be in London for a meeting at noon.

The talk was very informative and the girls asked many pertinent questions, including:

“What will happen if the Conservative Party don’t win the General Election?”

Emma replied that she is so sure that they will win that she would bet her house on it!  Another question was about the relationship with the Trump administration, as Emma is very involved in international trade,  and she talked about her recent visits to America and the fact that she stayed at Trump Tower!

Emma fully supports Brexit and was able to reassure our girls on some aspects of this, in light of the fact that the school voted to remain in our mock referendum last year.

Fizza Mussa gave a very competent vote of thanks.
