Community & Charity

At Leicester High, we teach values as well as knowledge and skills to the girls. One of the best ways to instill a sense of integrity, compassion, respect and responsibility is to encourage the girls to help others, particularly those less fortunate than themselves.

There has been a long tradition of charity fundraising at the school, led by the girls and supported by staff.

There has been a long tradition of charity fundraising at the school, led by the girls and supported by staff. The Amnesty Group has organised a variety of school events, such as campaigning for individuals and writing cards of support to prisoners of conscience. The Sixth Form Charity Prefect is responsible for co-ordinating school events to raise funds for chosen charities and the School Ball profits also go to charity. The whole school annually supports Children in Need and Sport Relief, and there are many girls who organise their own spontaneous activities to support personal causes. School Councils in both the Senior School and Junior Department organise initiatives to raise funds for their chosen charities.

Alongside the voluntary work as part of the DofE programme from Year 9 onwards, Year 11 girls take part in the "Right to Read" scheme and volunteer in local primary schools. The choirs regularly offer their services to local events and entertain residential homes, and Sixth Formers assist at Masterclasses for local primary schools throughout the year.
