Outdoor Education & DofE
Preparing the girls for life outside the school gates is as important to us as the grades they achieve within school.
In the Junior Department, we foster this right from the start in the Foundation Unit with the new Outdoor Classroom, where they are independent explorers, working and learning together.
In the Senior School, most of the girls take DofE at Bronze level, and very high proportions go on to take Silver and Gold. This Award is highly regarded and valued by UCAS and employers alike, who recognise it as the rigorous test of endurance it undoubtedly is. More importantly, it builds the girls' confidence in themselves and each other. It also gives them the opportunity to develop life-skills such as team work, organisation, self-reliance and inter-personal skills through the service, physical and skill sections. There are no limits to the numbers who can take DofE at Leicester High. Consequently it has very high participation levels and the girls embrace it and the positive attitude it promotes.
Pupils in Years 12 and 13 who have completed their Gold DofE have the chance to go away at the end of the Christmas term for a outdoor education trip.
Throughout the year pupils from Years 6 to 13 are given opportunities to join multi activity trips, normally at a weekend and staying in hostel accommodation where they get the chance to go rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking or high-ropes.
