When I wrote to our parents back in September, I announced that I had named the academic year 2020/2021: the year of Working Together. At that time, I had no idea how important this sentiment would become in the following months.
Since the lockdown was announced at the start of January, our Secondary School community has pulled together more than ever, supporting each other throughout. For this I remain overwhelmingly grateful. Without the support of our parents, staff and the hard work and resilience of the girls, we would have been in a very different position on our return to School. We stand as a family!
As it is, I have been delighted to welcome our girls and staff back this week. It has been wonderful to see the girls back with their friends and for School to become alive again. Our teaching staff have done an amazing job in keeping the girls on track academically through remote teaching, and our Years 11, 12 and 13 are well prepared for their mock examinations, which begin next week.
We recognise that this past year has been an emotionally trying one and our girls will continue to be supported pastorally throughout their transition back into school.
I would like to thank our Support Staff who have been quietly keeping the School’s wheels turning during lockdown, supporting keyworker children and ensuring the key functions of the School have continued to operate almost seamlessly.
I would also like to extend my specific gratitude to those staff, Nurse Emma, Mrs Ptohopoulos and Mrs Cupac, who have been running our on-site testing, a task far removed from their usual roles and one which they have embraced with professionalism and good humour. All pupils have now received at least two COVID tests since their return and we will be moving to providing home testing kits for our families from next week.
As we settle back into, what once again, I must refer to as a ‘new normal’, we will continue to focus on providing the very best education and support for your daughter and continue to work together as we navigate the terrain ahead.
