Biology at Leicester High

Years studied: Years 6 – 11. At GCSE level all girls all study the sciences in Year 10. In Year 11, girls either pursue a double award GCSE in Science or three individual GCSEs in the separate Sciences.

Biology is available as an option at  A Level.

Subject Overview

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of biology and how it impacts the world around us. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the topic and the diversity of life all around you, as well as developing your understanding of some of the historically important work which underpins modern Biology.

Our science subjects are taught in our purpose-built science labs, which provide the latest equipment and facilities for the study of science. Residential field courses are well supported and a wide variety of day trips are organised to support your learning.

Careers

Some students who study Biology are keen to pursue a specific career such as pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, or an area of biomedicine such as physiotherapy or radiography. For others, it may act as an excellent foundation for proceeding onto one of many related courses in higher education such as microbiology, genetics, food science, biotechnology, biochemistry, psychology, the environmental sciences and more.
