Geography at Leicester High

Years studied: Years 6-9. Geography is available as an option at GCSE and A Level.

Subject overview

The study of Geography covers a wide range of themes that focus on both physical environments, such as tropical rain forests and coasts, and human activities, such as settlement and population. You will learn about local, national and global issues in both rich and poor countries, and will be encouraged at all levels to develop geographical and fieldwork skills.

There are several geography field trips, including a Year 7 trip to Norfolk where you will take part in outdoor activities, bonding exercises and study coastal processes.

Geography develops your ability to express ideas and arguments clearly and logically in written and oral work. There is a strong emphasis on you undertaking their own research. This encourages individual interests to be explored, as well as developing independent research skills.
