Senior Athletics Round Up

Some impressive results from Years 6 and up in area and county meets...

Primary Area Athletics

On the 3 June, the primary athletics squad took part in the primary area athletics competition at Saffron Lane. They went with a team of seven and managed to come home with a total of six podium places.  Results were as follows: India Durman-Mills 3rd in the 50m sprint, Constance Davies 2nd in the 75m spri

nt and 3rd in the standing long jump, Sofia Rands 2nd in the 600m, Isobel Hardy 14th in the 600m, Annika Agnihorti 

1st place in the standing long jump and 6th in the 50m sprint, Hannah Fowler 7th in the Howler throw and Jemma Engelgardt 10th in the Howler throw.  The relay team, consisting of Connie, India, Annika, Sofia and Jemma, came 3rd p

lace in the 5x80m.  The girls returned 

delighted with their medals.

Senior Area Athletics 

Year 7

On the 19 May, LHS took part in the area athletics at Saffron Lane. Every girl had great fun supporting one another in each event. All the girls pushed to their limits to achieve the best place possible despite the weather. Congratulations to all the girls who reached the finals or county finals: Molly Rossiter 3rd and through to finals in 100m; Jemima Parker 3rd and Sara Petrozzi 4th and through to finals in 200m; Fleur Jeffrey 2nd in Shot Putt a

nd Eloise North


 who won her 2km walk and qualified for the county athletics,

Year 8

The area athletics was a tough competition but Year 8 competed well. The results were: Zainab Khadara who won her 200m heat, and came 2nd in the final and qualified for the County athletics;  Puneet Rekhi who ran the 1500m middle distance race and won, and qualified for the County athletics; Indya Madlani came 3rd in the Javelin; Zaynah Ahmed won the 2K walk and qualified for the County Athletics, and Mahbubah Durojaiye who competed in discus, won the event and qualified for the County athletics.  A

ll of the Year 8s did very well and enjoyed an afternoon of competition and supporting each other.

Year 9

Alice Goldsmith came 2nd in the her 200m sprint, and 3rd in the final, she also qualified for the County athletics; Hritika Modi came 3rd in the 2km Walk; Rashmi Patwardhan came 2nd in the high jump, and the relay team which consisted of Nayya Patel, Riya Ghosh, Asiyah Ibraheem and Alice Goldsmith came 3rd.

Intermediate Girls

Sofia Bhatty competed in the high jump, won, scored a PB and qualified for the County athletics; Avnet Atwall came 2nd in the discus.

County Athletics

In the May area athletics competition, 7 of the LHS athletics squad qualified for the County Athletics Competition, which was held on 13th June.   Again, typical athletics weather for the UK, not a ray of sunlight in sight, but that did not put the girls off!  The squad gained experience 

and a great sense of competition at this event as they competed for East Leicester against the best of each area in Leicestershire .  Results were as follows:  Mahbubah Durojaiye came 4th in the discus, Puneet Rekhi came 14th in the 1500m and achieved a new PB, Zainab Khadara came 7th and Sofia Bhatty came 2nd in the high jump winning a silver medal.
