Award-Winning Author Patrice Lawrence Inspires Pupils

Leicester High School for Girls' English Department and School Library welcomed the award-winning writer, Patrice Lawrence, whose novels include "Diver's Daughter," and "Eight Pieces of Silva.”

Patrice Lawrence is an MBE and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature last year. The event was made even more special with the presence of Kibworth Bookshop, offering students the opportunity to purchase her celebrated works.

During her visit, Patrice shared insights into her personal journey from humble beginnings to becoming an internationally renowned author. Her inspirational message resounded with the audience: regardless of one's background or starting point in life, every individual has the power to make their voice heard. She also shared exciting details about her new series of books, "Elemental Detectives,"

Kawsar, a student in Year 7, delivered a superb vote of thanks to express the school community's gratitude for Patrice's visit and inspiring words.

Mrs Penney, Head of English, said, “Patrice's message of resilience was powerful for our younger students.  She spoke with passion about the need for girls of colour to see themselves represented in the books they read; a message that we fully support here at LHS."

Following her talk, Patrice Lawrence took the time to sign copies of her books and provide an opportunity for the girls to connect with a literary role model.
