MEP Emma McClarkin visits school to talk politics to Years 10 and 11
We were very fortunate to have a visit from Conservative MEP for the East Midlands, Emma McClarkin. She rushed in straight from Strasbourg, barely taking time to draw breath, before talking to the girls in Years 10 and 11 about her exciting, but very demanding role in the European Parliament. Somewhat disappointed to no longer be our youngest MEP, she is nevertheless a fantastic role model and offered the girls some important advice; in particular, as it is World Book Day today, a quote from her favourite book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: “Nothing is impossible!” She said she had been reminded of this book as they were playing the Oompa Loompa song on the Eurostar on her journey here. Miss McClarkin was impressed by the knowledge displayed by our girls; and for those girls who stood as candidates in the LHS mock EU elections last year it was especially rewarding to be able to speak to a real MEP.
