School Reopening - Information for EYFS, Reception, Year 1,Year 6 and Years 10 and 12

Update 20 May 2020

Dear Parents

Following the Government's announcement regarding the potential return to School for certain year groups from Monday 1st June, we have been planning the detailed logistics of welcoming back those girls in Years Foundation, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. We have also started making plans for the part-time return of Years 10 and Year 12 at a later point in June. We know you will have many questions about the procedures for your daughter's return to School, whether that will take place on 1 June, or a little later in the term. Please let me assure you that the safety of our pupils and staff must be paramount.

We have therefore created the below  FAQs document which, we hope, will answer many of your questions and support your decision making about your daughter's return to School. It would be helpful if, once you have digested the information provided, parents of girls in Foundation, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 could advise the School if they are planning on their daughter returning to School on 1st June. This will support our planning for a smooth return for the girls and staff. Please could you email enquiries@leicesterhigh.co.uk with your daughter's name, year group and whether she will be returning from the 1st June.

Girls in year groups who have not yet been given a date to return to school will continue to receive high-quality teaching remotely, throughout the remainder of the Summer Term.

We will continue to provide supervision for the children of key workers in any year group for the rest of the Summer Term, including over the May half-term break (we will not be open on Bank Holiday Monday 25th May). Provision will be made for them to complete their work in School.

You will appreciate the information provided to Schools about further year groups returning so far has been very limited. We will, of course, keep parents fully informed as the Government provides further information.

Can I take this opportunity to, once again, thank you for your continuing support of the School as we navigate this unfamiliar terrain together.

With every good wish

Update 12 May - Further to the below, we have now been informed that children in Foundation will also be able to return to School from 1st June at the earliest. Therefore, this year group is being included in our plans going forward.

11 May 2020

Dear Parents

As you will be aware, following last night’s announcement, the Government have advised that schools might reopen from Monday 1st June at the earliest. The Prime Minister has said a phased return to school would begin with pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, if infection rates and the government's five other tests at the time allow. The Prime Minister has also said there is an "ambition" that Year 10 and Year 12 pupils would get some time in school before the summer holidays.

Although we are pleased that some of our girls may soon be re-joining us at School, we obviously need to put plans in place to ensure they are safe to do so. We had started to formulate these plans in preparation for the likely outcome of Sunday’s announcement, and this work will now continue at pace. As always, the safety of our staff and girls will be at the forefront of the plans we put together.

I would hope to be able to update you on the specifics of the planned return within the next week. In the meantime, we will continue to provide your daughter with remote education and to provide onsite education for the children of key workers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your support of the School during these challenging times.

With every good wish
