We promote participation for all, particularly in extracurricular sport. Our philosophy is to take part, join in and do your best. This approach means there is a healthy attitude towards sport in the School, with high levels of participation. Everyone receives the same coaching and has access to the same opportunities and facilities.
In the Junior Department, girls are taught to swim, play netball, badminton and learn gymnastics. There is an annual house swimming gala and netball matches against other schools.
In the Senior School our strengths lie particularly in badminton, athletics and netball - we have reached the County Finals in all of these sports.
We came first in an International Netball Tour to Malta in 2012, bringing home two trophies. There are also biannual Ski Trips to France and Italy. Athletics goes from strength to strength, aided by the access we have to superb facilities at Saffron Lane and the University of Leicester. 2017 has seen the introduction of a trampoline club and this is proving very popular, enabling us to enter our first competitions in this activity. Within school, we have annual netball, tennis and badminton tournaments which are very popular and fiercely contested, often between the three houses.
However, we are most proud of the fact that so many girls enjoy sport and such high numbers attend clubs. Over 50 girls attend badminton club every week, and the girls receive regular professional coaching from the professionals at the Leicestershire Lawn Tennis Club. Offering choice is important too: girls enjoy a range of activities from spinning to rounders and rugby to yoga, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
