In the Hotseat, our Head of the Junior Department

Join us in getting to know our exceptional Head of the Junior Department, Mrs Sarah Davies, who has been shaping young minds at Leicester High School since 1996.

What is your role, and how long have you been working here?

- I am Head of the Junior Department at Leicester High School. I have been in this role since September 2016 however, I first started working at Leicester High School as a Y3 teacher in March 1996!

What is your favourite thing about Leicester High School for Girls?

- My favourite thing about Leicester High School is the girls! It's a pleasure to work in an environment where you can teach a group of individuals who love to learn.

Something people don't know about you, or your department/role?

- I love building/DIY/fixing things and have an emergency toolkit in my desk drawer. My family say I don't need instructions to construct anything from IKEA!

What is the most rewarding part of working with the girls?

- The most rewarding part of working with the girls is furthering their development and witnessing the outcome. As a primary teacher you rarely get the opportunity to see how the young children you have taught turn out as young adults - it's wonderful to see!

What aspect of our school's mission and values resonates with you most?

'To create a friendly, caring community where every individual is valued' At the start of a child's educational experience, it is important that a child feels happy, safe and understood. I believe that happy children learn and feel that LHS is somewhere where 'everyone is someone'.
