Academic
For most independent schools
academic success is a given, and
Leicester High is no different. The
School has the best exam results in
the city; GCSE and A level results
greatly exceed the national average
and most girls secure their first choice
of university. But let’s not stop there.
What really matters is quality. When
the Headmaster observes lessons
he looks for engagement, learning,
fun and teaching at all ability levels.
If we don’t get this right, the girls will
gain qualifications, but very little else.
Through high-quality teaching, we
aim to instil a love of learning that
lasts a lifetime. From Year 7, girls are
taught the sciences separately, in
six laboratories, and enjoy exciting
practicals such as dissection and
chemical experiments. International
GCSEs (IGCSEs) are taught in some
subjects because we believe they are
more rigorous and a better preparation
for A level. Whilst in some schools
languages have dwindled to almost
nothing, girls from Year 1 learn French
with a specialist teacher. In Senior
School Years 6-9 learn Italian, Spanish
and French, and at IGCSE most girls
choose either Spanish or French, or
both. We even offer Japanese Club
for girls eager to learn about other
languages and cultures. Although
results are important, so is the quality
and the choice of subjects. We deliver
on both.
Did you know...?
Girls in Years 7-9 have separate lessons for each science: physics, biology
and chemistry, preparing them brilliantly for GCSEs and A level.
