The Admissions
process explained
Most new girls join in September at the beginning of the academic year in Foundation and Reception, and Years 6, 7 and 12,
because that is when many girls start or change schools. However, it is not unusual to have girls from any year join at any time
for a variety of reasons, moving home being a key one.
One of the most stressful things for parents is trying to get to grips with the timing and administration of registering their
daughter for a new school, but we like to keep things simple:

Calendar
Visit us
Like most schools we have open days at set times, but you
can visit at any time, more than once, and with or without your
daughter. You can tour the whole school or part of it, and will
meet the Headmaster or Head of Juniors where appropriate.
We also have a special visit just for your daughter to sample
school herself, called a Taster Day, where she will spend time
in lessons with future classmates. Many parents do this after a
first visit to involve and reassure their daughter. Others prefer
to wait until their daughter has secured a place. When you are
happy and are at the stage where you think that you would
like your daughter to join us, you need to
register.
Register
This means putting your daughter’s name down for an
examination or assessment. At this stage parents complete
a registration form and pay an administration fee of £85 (UK
and EU, or £100 Non-EU). Some parents plan ahead and
complete these forms when their daughters are still babies.
In extreme cases, where parents are moving from abroad
to the UK and may lack time, registration and sitting for an
examination may happen in the same week! It is important to
point out that registering does not guarantee your daughter
a place, nor does it commit you to joining the School. It
simply means that you would like your daughter to sit for the
assessment/examination. However it is also worth pointing out
that some classes do get full, and offers of places are made on
a first come first served basis based on when parents register.
For this reason, we encourage you to register as soon as you
feel the School is right for you and your daughter.
Assessment and
Examination
Whilst we assess girls at any time, like most independent
schools, we have a set day in January for assessments and
examinations. These are for the girls joining Foundation
and Reception or Years 6-10. For girls in Foundation and
Reception, they will explore and enjoy everything on offer
in the unit and are assessed from 9.30am-11am. Parents
stay on site socialising with staff and other parents. The
entrance examination for Years 6-10 consists of papers in
English, mathematics and a reasoning test, and lasts from
9.00am-12.30pm. Results for tests taken in January are
posted to parents by the end of the month. Pupils wishing
to enter Years 1-5 are tested in English and mathematics.
For girls entering Years 1- 2 inclusive, the assessments last
for a morning, whilst those for entry into Years 3-5 last for
a whole day. Girls already in the Junior Department do not
sit an examination to join the Senior School. Girls wishing to
join the Sixth Form in Year 12 must have at least a Grade B
in six academically rigorous and relevant subjects at GCSE,
including English and maths. A satisfactory report from the
current school will also be required.
