What is a bursary, who can apply for one, and when?
A bursary is financial support for families who have difficulty in paying the full fees. Our School policy is to help those least able
to pay and most likely to benefit from an independent education at Leicester High. Bursaries are means-tested which means
that all applicants have to prove that they are eligible to qualify for support. This proof is provided by very detailed information
about the financial situation of the family, which is supplied by parents on a bursary application form. Bursary offers can range
from 5%- 50% of the full fees, depending on individual circumstances. For example using 2015 - 2016 fees, a Year 6 pupil’s fees
are £11,022 per annum with a maximum 50% bursary. The School would support the pupil to the cost of £5,527.50 per annum
and parents would need to pay £5,527.50 per annum themselves. Bursary support is re-assessed and re-applied for annually, as
families’ finances change over time. Bursaries are awarded from Year 6 onwards. Most of the bursary fund is used to support girls
taking the entrance examination in January each year. Bursary applications need to be submitted to the Registrar by the middle of
December before the January examination. At the end of January, parents who have applied for bursaries will be informed of the
School’s decision.
See the website for the bursary application form and the bursary policy.
