Every student approaches the university
process in their own way. However, the
truth is, aside from the few who know
the career they wish to follow, most
feel a bit overawed and don’t know
where to start. That’s where we come
in with our unrivalled programme of
support and advice. At the end of Year
12, all students attend a formal training
session. University admissions officers
explain the process from beginning
to end, giving particular attention to
personal statements. Parents also learn
about the application process, as well as
the financial side, in an evening session.
Girls then have the chance to research
courses, talk to their Tutors, the Head
of Sixth Form and their teachers,
one-to-one. Significant time is given
to personal statement writing, with
specialist help, so that before the end
of Year 12, a first draft is in place. This
means that when students return in
Year 13, they are more than ready for
deadlines in October. The Careers
Room in the Sixth Form has information
on university open days, which the girls
are encouraged to attend at the end
of Year 12 onwards. Once they return
after the summer break, medics, vets
and lawyers are prepared for specific
tests and interviews by actual medics,
vets and lawyers. All girls can attend
an ‘Applying to Oxbridge’ evening, and
Oxbridge candidates visit other schools
for mock interviews. The Head of Sixth
Form, Sixth Form Tutors and teachers
work together to support every individual
in her application, ensuring the
maximum guidance and encouragement
at this crucial time.
Did you know...?
Personal statements are reviewed
by Sixth Form Tutors, the Head of
Sixth Form and the Headmaster
before being submitted. Tutors read
them many times, not just once.
