Let’s be honest, life in the Sixth Form
gets stressful at times. But providing
good pastoral care is complex and is
much more than just handling a crisis.
It is about being a source of guidance
and encouragement every day. It’s
hard to evaluate what ‘a good pastoral
system’ is, because on a visit it wouldn’t
be obvious. However, we believe that
the excellent pastoral care we have in
place enhances the girls’ enjoyment
of School and the success of their
academic work. Getting to know the
girls well through our commitment to
small Tutor groups and adequate Tutor
time is just the start. When girls join in
Year 12, they have a bonding day which
breaks down barriers and establishes
friendships. Activities such as Yoga and
Boot Camp are offered specifically to
help the girls have the downtime they
need, and House events, led by three
House Captain Prefects in Year 13,
provide fun activities supporting good
causes. Underpinning all of this is Nurse
Abby, our full-time School Nurse, and
also timetabled PHSCE (personal,
health, social and citizenship education)
lessons. Our ‘Excellent’ pastoral care,
according to the Inspection Report
2015, is a carefully managed investment
in the girls that builds security and
confidence.
Did you know...?
The best judges of our pastoral care are girls new to us in Year 12 and they
said: ‘LHS is more personalised and teachers notice if you are struggling. In
bigger schools there are cliques; here it’s just
us
. We work like sisters together.
Your opinion matters here. Joining in Year 12? I’ve never looked back.’
