School Lunches

Lunchtime at Leicester High School for Girls is a relaxed and sociable part of the school day, giving pupils time to pause, enjoy good food with friends and return to lessons refreshed and ready to learn.

Our school meals are prepared by Lexington Independents, who work closely with us to provide fresh, nutritious food with plenty of choice each day. Menus are shaped by feedback from pupils so that lunchtime remains something students look forward to each day.

Our catering service across the school operates using a secure biometric payment system, helping ensure that lunchtime runs smoothly and efficiently for pupils.

Meal Provision

Junior School 

All Junior Department pupils enjoy a freshly prepared hot lunch each day in the dining hall. This is included within school fees and is an important and sociable part of the school day.

Senior School 

Senior School pupils have the option of a freshly prepared hot lunch each day in the main school canteen.

A range of additional items, including sandwiches, salads and hot grab-and-go options, is also available from the Tuck Shop at break and lunchtime.

From September 2026, school meals will be included within fees for all Senior School pupils, ensuring every student benefits from a balanced, nutritious lunch each day.

All food is prepared in line with halal standards. This ensures that all pupils can dine together inclusively, while still offering a broad and varied menu that reflects the tastes and preferences of the whole school community.

Food Allergies and Dietary Requirements

Our catering team receives annual allergy training and additional updates whenever allergen guidance changes, so we can support students with a wide range of dietary needs.

If your child has any food allergies, intolerances, or specific dietary requirements, please contact our Catering Manager, Mr R Stewart, directly at catering@leicesterhigh.co.uk. We will always do our best to make sure every student can enjoy meals that are safe, suitable, and prepared with care.

Healthy Eating

Through our ‘Health by Stealth’ approach, small improvements are built into everyday dishes so that students benefit from healthier choices while still enjoying food that tastes good and feels familiar.

This includes:

  • Levels of fat, particularly saturated fat, are kept low
  • Salt is carefully reduced
  • Sugar is kept to a minimum
  • A choice of fresh fruit and vegetables is available every day

This approach helps support students’ health and wellbeing while encouraging positive eating habits in a natural and balanced way.
