Pastoral Care

At Leicester High School for Girls, pastoral care is central to school life. Pupils achieve their best when they feel safe, supported, understood and confident.
As a small school, we know our pupils well. Staff build strong relationships with girls and their families, allowing us to notice quickly when support is needed and to celebrate each pupil’s progress as she grows.
Our aim is simple: every girl should feel known, valued and inspired to be her best.
A school where every girl is known
Pupils are not anonymous at Leicester High. They are known as individuals, with their own strengths, interests, friendships and ambitions.
This helps staff support pupils academically, socially and emotionally throughout their time at school.
Support at every stage
Pastoral care is provided through form tutors, Heads of Year, senior staff and specialist support where needed.
Support may include:
- regular contact with form tutors and Heads of Year
- guidance with friendships and confidence
- support with organisation and learning habits
- wellbeing conversations
- close communication with parents
- additional help where individual needs are identified
Building confidence and resilience
Girls are encouraged to take responsibility, learn from mistakes, manage pressure and develop independence.
Through lessons, assemblies, enrichment, leadership opportunities and daily school life, pupils are supported to grow into thoughtful, capable and confident young women.
Working with families
Strong communication with families is an important part of our pastoral care.
We work with parents and carers to understand each pupil’s needs and provide timely, practical support.
Pastoral care and learning support
Pastoral care works closely with learning support so pupils receive joined-up help where needed.
This may include support with confidence, organisation, study habits, additional learning needs or transition between stages of school.
Come and see our pastoral care in action
The best way to understand the atmosphere of Leicester High is to visit.
We warmly welcome families to meet our staff and pupils, see lessons in action and experience the supportive environment for themselves.
