Runner Up in Lord Lieutenant's Award
Georgia Mackay wins Runner Up in Young Volunteer of the Year at The Lord Lieutenant's Awards for Young People.
Georgia Mackay, in Year 12, was entered by the School for the Leicestershire Lord-Lieutenant's Young People Awards Volunteer of the Year category, for her excellent voluntary work on Takeover Radio. She was shortlisted and asked to a dinner and prize-giving ceremony at County Hall with friends and family, and managed to gain a Runner Up prize of £100 HighCross vouchers.
Since 2013, she has travelled to Takeover Radio every Tuesday, and from 6-8pm she is live on the talk show with two other young volunteer presenters. During the show they play music, discuss issues such as religion, politics and problems in society, and take calls from listeners who contribute to the show. To be able to host the show, she has to do about 1.5 hours preparation a day. She reads the news and keeps abreast of the big issues of the week so that she will not be caught out on air. Graham Coley, Co-Founder of Takeover Radio says 'She is an integral part of the show, and the team work very well together.' In School, her confidence has grown, and she happily talks to the Headmaster about the show and what she has been up to.
Congratulations to Georgia for her excellent community volunteering. She thoroughly deserves her prize.
