School Trains PGCE Students

School partners with Derby University to deliver PGCE module for students...

Eight PGCE students from Derby University attended School for a whole day in May as part of their teacher training course. The School has had some very able students for teacher placements, but the training day involved several School staff teaching one of the University modules. Mr Whelpdale and Miss Wassell delivered sessions on interviewing  preparation and technique, Miss Paul discussed the School's Able Gifted and Talented Policy, and Ms Teal presented the latest changes in learning support in her role as SENCO Coordinator. The eight students then observed two lessons with our experienced members of staff. Ms Hayley Wood, Senior Lecturer at Derby University said, 'This has been a fantastic opportunity to see another context of education, and gives our trainees the privilege of seeing the School at work.' Mr Whelpdale, who believes that linking with the community can only benefit the School and the community in the long term, said, 'Connecting with the community and creating opportunities to share our expertise are highly important at the High School. It was a privilege to engage and help the next generation of teachers.'
