Year 6 Geography and Art trip to Cotesbach
Y6 combine geography and art in Lutterworth trip
On 2 February, Year 6 set off in two minibuses for Cotesbach Educational Trust. Accompanied by Mrs. Pulham and Mrs. Whalley, they spent the day doing a host of geographical and art activities. They started by walking around Lutterworth to familiarise themselves with the type of shops and services provided in the town and also to investigate the origins of the settlement.
Once at Cotesbach, they looked at receipts for goods bought in Lutterworth over 100 years ago. They located the shops, which had been used on a 1888 map. This is related to the topic on settlements and shopping that Year 6 are currently following in geography.
The girls then used historical pictures of Lutterworth shops together with the receipts to design a shop front. Provided with collage and artistic materials they transferred their design onto a paper bag. Later they had the opportunity to design a town and practise their writing skills using Victorian style equipment!
It was a very enjoyable day.
