Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Training Day

On Saturday 18th February, it was the D of E training day for Bronze, Silver and Gold participants.  A total of 60 students across Years 9-12 attended the day at school in preparation for their upcoming expeditions. This year, there is a total of 6 groups enrolled at Bronze, 3 groups enrolled at Silver, and 1 group enrolled at Gold.

The girls started the training day by planning their routes for their practice and qualifying expeditions using OS maps in their DofE groups. They then had to work out the time it would take to complete their route as well as the height climbed during each day.

After the routes were planned, the instructors delivered training on the following topics:

  • Tent pitching and campcraft
  • How to cook on a Trangia and menu planning
  • Equipment and how to pack a rucksack
  • Countryside code
  • First aid and emergency procedures
  • Aim of adventure

It certainly was a busy day of training for the girls involved and it was great to see each group developing their teamwork skills. Thank you to all the girls who attended and the instructors from H5 Adventure who delivered the training day. It was a fantastic, fun filled day and the groups are excited for their upcoming expeditions.
