Geographers Head North!

Y12 tackle fieldwork in Yorkshire....

On Monday 23 March the Year 12 AS geography students travelled north to visit the Cranedale Centre in North Yorkshire. The first topic for investigation was the characteristics of Dalby Beck, a small stream flowing through the picturesque Dalby Forest. The girls measured the channel, gradient and velocity of the stream, before heading back to the centre for the evening. The next day they travelled to the coast to study the processes and landforms at Flamborough Head, before making their way down the coastline to assess some of the management techniques used. On the last day they spent the morning collecting data about the market town of Malton and after a quick lunch stop they identified the flood defences in Malton, and nearby Norton. Finally, everyone headed home after a fantastic three days.
