Entrance Examinations & Assessments
Once you have visited the School and your daughter has perhaps attended a Taster day, she will need to be assessed for Entry into the School.
Joining the Junior Department
We understand the idea of 'assessment' for girls entering the Junior Department can be a concern for parents. However please be reassured all of our assessments are made as relaxed as possible and simply allow us to assess your daughter within the School environment.
EYFS: Years Foundation and Reception, age 3-5
Girls are welcome to join the Foundation class immediately after their third birthday and the Reception class at 4+. For the assessment, which usually lasts around two hours, girls spend time in the Foundation Unit being encouraged to become involved in a range of activities.
You will have the opportunity to meet with the Head of the Junior Department and key staff during the assessment.
Junior Department: Years 1-5, age 6-10
Girls entering Years 1 and 2 have an assessment, usually for around 2.5 hours, at a time to suit you. During the assessment, your daughter will join in with the classroom activities going on that day. They will also spend break time in the playground with their classmates.
Girls entering Years 3-5 have a longer assessment, lasting around 5.5 hours, at a time to suit you. Girls are tested in mathematics and English. Girls will also spend time in the classroom and in the playground at break and lunch times with their classmates.
Joining the Senior School
Senior School: Years 6-11, age 10-16
In order to be considered for a place into the Senior School, your daughter will need to sit our Entrance Examination. The Entrance Examination is set at a level appropriate to age of entry and level of experience. However all of the Entrance Examinations follow the same format:
- An English paper consisting of a reading task and a piece of extended writing.
- A mathematics examination designed to provide the opportunity to demonstrate ability in mathematics.
- A general reasoning test which consists of questions of a verbal, numerical and perceptual nature.
You can apply for a place into Year 6 - 10 at any point, depending on the availability of places. However our main Entrance Examination for entry into the Senior School takes place in January each year.
If you are interested in a place for September 2019, please contact our Admissions Officer, Mrs Alice Hailes on 0116 270 5338 or email@example.com
