Your GCSEs are an important and exciting stage in your school career. You will officially begin to study for them in Year 10; although some subjects will have started to cover GCSE content in Year 9; with your examinations taking place at the end of Year 11.
We are very proud of the achievements of our girls at GCSE, with examination results well above the national average.
Most girls at LHS will study between 7-10 subjects at GCSE level, with all girls studying:
- English language
- English literature
- Sciences (single award, double award or as three separate sciences - Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
You will also have lessons in non-examination courses in Physical Education and Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) well-being education. You will then choose up to four further subjects.
We understand that making these choices may feel daunting for some. The GCSE brochure attached below, provides detail on each of our GCSE options. We also hold a series of events during Year 9 to help to build your understanding of what studying a subject at GCSE entails. Our teaching staff and the Head of Years 10 - 11 are also always on hand to provide advice and support during your decision making process.
This support continues throughout your studies. We know that, for most girls, your GCSEs are the first time you have sat official examinations and we ensure you are fully supported throughout.
