Music Scholarships

The deadline for applications for September 2024 is Thursday 4 January 2024.

Music Scholarships are open to all pupils in Year 6 and above. Scholarships are awarded annually and provide funding to be used for music lessons.

At Leicester High School we are always keen to encourage musical talent and your daughter should apply for a Music Scholarship if they can demonstrate musical potential and an existing proven commitment to extra-curricular activities.

In order to apply your daughter should be at a level equivalent to around Grade 4 standard at 11+ or Grade 6 standard or above for entry to Sixth Form. When considering an application, please remember we are looking for potential.

Therefore, if your daughter has not quite reached the required standard, please do get in touch with the Head of Music to discuss the scholarship application further. We would like to encourage any candidate with musical ability and hoping to enter the School to apply. The scholarship requires all candidates to take an active and full part in the wider musical life of the school with regular involvement in ensembles, groups, choirs and concerts.

Candidates for scholarships at any age are required to play two contrasting pieces on their chosen instrument, demonstrate their sight-reading and take aural tests. If offering a second study instrument, candidates will be required to perform one piece on each instrument. They will need to obtain a brief reference from their current instrumental teacher(s).

Scholars are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for and commitment to music and will be expected to make a contribution to the musical life of the School throughout their time at LHS.

Further details can be obtained from the Head of Music who is happy to answer any questions relating to music and music awards at the School.
