The vast majority of girls will be applying for admission to universities and full support is given for this process, which starts in the summer term of Year 12, with a UCAS Conference in school. Competition is now very keen, so every effort is made to help students make the right decision. Everyone is encouraged to go to Open Days at universities and to attend taster courses during Year 12, as well as have an individual interview with the Careers team.
Girls will have the opportunity to attend a local Higher Education fair and careers talks and presentations take place throughout the year. We use Cambridge Occupational Analysts (COA) and access work experience courses, psychometric testing and higher education fairs. Every Year 13 student is given support with interview techniques and relevant students are interviewed by professional volunteers. Suitable students are prepared for the Oxbridge application and interview process and students are mentored for any specific entry tests, for example, BMAT and UKCAT entrance tests. To improve the chances of being admitted to Oxbridge, relevant girls participate in mock interviews in an exchange programme with Stamford High School and Uppingham School. In our careers area, there is a range of relevant prospectuses and up-to-date university directories and several computers to use for internet research. The weekly sixth form bulletin includes careers information for girls and the sixth form notice board in the Careers area is updated on a regular basis by our Careers team.
