Operation Christmas Child
A girl in Year 12 explains why this charity is so important to her....
Every year our school participates in Operation Christmas Child. The reason why I adore this tradition is because not only does this get us in the festive Christmas mode, but it reminds us of how privileged we are. Every Christmas morning we are able to wake up and see stacks of presents wrapped under our extravagantly decorated Christmas tree; rarely do we remember other children in the world who are less fortunate than ourselves and won’t be celebrating this occasion. Operation Christmas Child is an opportunity that allows us to give something back. It is heart-warming to know that something as little as a shoebox filled with a few presents is able to change a child’s life. Having taken part in Operation Christmas Child for more than five years, it gives me great joy to know that I am able to spread happiness to a child in another country. It is a reminder of how Christmas is a loving, joyful and generous occasion for everyone to celebrate.
This year, Leicester High was able to make a staggering 153 shoe boxes that are currently being sent off around the world. This is a record for our school and it is encouraging to know that the caring and generous girls in our school and able to give something back to the community.
