Bronze DofE Expedition Rutland
24 Bronze intrepid DofE girls hit Rutland for their first trek and camp....
23 Year 9 pupils and one Y10 pupil started their DofE journey last weekend with their training and practice in Rutland. Every group was mentored and trained by two Gold DofE pupils in the Sixth Form, as well as two former pupils, Jo Hitchcock and Sorcha Whyte, who returned to help. They all gave up three days to teach and support their group under the supervision of Andy and Ian from First 4 Adventure UK. On Friday they completed a series of workshops including tents, trangias, emergency scenarios, route planning, navigating and compass work, rucksacks and kit. On Saturday and Sunday they completed a six hour walk each day covering approximately 26km in total, learning to navigate and work together as a team. Despite a grim forecast, the weather turned out to be reasonably good and despite very cold temperatures at night we had mostly dry days. Overall, the girls did extremely well and we wish them good luck for their qualifier in June in the Peaks.
Thank you also to Mrs Whalley and Mrs Davison for accompanying the expedition.
