European Day of Languages
European Day of Languages celebrated in a variety of events around School.
All last week at LHS we celebrated the diversity of Languages spoken in Europe.
During the assembly on the actual European Day of Languages - Monday 26 September - our Sixth Form Linguists entertained the Senior School by giving examples of false-friends which can mislead people and cause misunderstandings. Some of the videos shown were quite eloquent on how misinterpretations can lead to funny or rather “awkward” situations!
A special European Day of Languages was served on the day including chicken Fricassée, Spanish omelette, feta salad and tiramisu for dessert!
The Languages department organised a series of events to celebrate the European Day of Languages, culminating with our first Foreign Club film – “Le Petit Nicolas” (a French movie) on Thursday after school! We are hoping to hold this event on a regular basis so please find out when the next film is on and among along!
All students and staff across the school were invited to join in the event by taking the register in different languages and practised some other few words in different languages in their lessons.
