Leadership

Empowering girls to lead with confidence, curiosity, and character.

Leadership at Leicester High is shaped by this vision. We see leadership as part of everyday school life, not something limited to titles or formal positions. Every girl has the potential to lead, and we provide purposeful opportunities to help her grow in confidence, capability, and ambition.

We create space in lessons and co-curricular life for girls to collaborate, take initiative, and make a positive difference in school and beyond.

Why Leadership Matters

Leadership prepares pupils for an ever-changing world. When girls learn to lead, they build confidence, resilience, teamwork, communication, and sound decision-making. These qualities support strong academic progress and prepare them for university, work, and life.

Our approach is:

  • Inclusive – every pupil can take part.

  • Progressive – responsibilities grow as they move through the School.

  • Practical – girls learn through experience.

  • Purposeful – leadership develops communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience.

Leadership Opportunities Across the School

Junior School

Leadership begins early, with roles that build confidence and responsibility:

  • Form Captains

  • School Council Representatives

  • Library Champions

  • Eco and Wellbeing Ambassadors

  • Poet Laureate

  • Community Project Leaders

These experiences help younger pupils express ideas, work with others, and take initiative.

Senior School

Leadership expands as pupils gain influence and responsibility:

  • House Captains

  • Subject Ambassadors

  • Sports Leaders

  • Peer Mentors

  • Student Voice Committees

  • Representatives at School events and Open Days

Girls learn to lead teams, support peers, and contribute actively to school life

Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, leadership plays a central role in preparing students for university and future careers. Key roles include:

  • Senior Prefect Team

  • Academic, Wellbeing and Diversity Prefects

  • Society Leaders (e.g., Curie Academic Society)

  • Sports and Performing Arts Leaders

Sixth Form students also lead clubs, mentor younger pupils, run assemblies, manage charity projects, and represent the School at major events.

Leadership Through Learning

Leadership also develops through wider experiences such as:

  • Public speaking and presentations

  • Performances, concerts, and services

  • Competitive debating

  • Outdoor education and residential trips

  • Community and charity projects

These opportunities help pupils grow in confidence and lead with empathy and integrity.

The Leicester High Mindset

We encourage girls to:

  • Speak up with confidence

  • Lead with kindness and respect

  • Embrace challenges

  • Support and uplift others

  • Take pride in their achievements

Leadership at Leicester High is about becoming the best version of yourself—academically, personally, and socially.

Preparing Future Leaders

Our pupils leave as articulate, capable young women who are ready to lead at university, in their careers, and in their communities. They take forward the skills, values, and mindset to make a meaningful difference.
