Portland Café Launches at Leicester High School for Girls

A wonderful new tradition began at Leicester High School for Girls this week as we opened the doors of our Portland Café for the very first time — a community project designed to bring people together over conversation, culture and good food.

A local Turkish conversation group joined us after school to enjoy a relaxed and friendly gathering filled with warmth, laughter and delicious home-cooked food. Guests were treated to Nohutlu Türlü soup, prepared by our talented GCSE Food Studies students with support from LHS staff. The dish was a huge hit - one guest even said, “When I close my eyes, this takes me straight back to Turkey.”

The Sixth Form Common Room was transformed into a welcoming café space, buzzing with conversation and smiles. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, share food from different cultures and strengthen community connections.

We’re delighted that the Portland Café will open its doors again before Christmas - keep an eye out for the date!
