Our recent Public Speaking Event brought together pupils from across the School for an engaging and thought-provoking afternoon of debate, with parents also invited to join us.
In the Senior School, pupils tackled a range of challenging and topical questions. Discussions included “Is Hollywood a place of gender stereotypes?”, “Is feminism still relevant in 2026?” and “Is AI a suitable substitute for a human therapist?” Each speaker presented their ideas clearly, showing confidence, careful research and the ability to consider different perspectives.
One of the most powerful themes across the event was “Creating a better world”, with pupils reflecting on the role they can play in shaping the future. It was encouraging to see them engage with complex global issues and articulate their views with maturity.
A favourite topic was “AI is taking away human jobs”, which sparked discussion and thoughtful arguments on both sides.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop their public speaking skills, build confidence and learn how to structure and present an argument. It was also a pleasure to welcome parents into school to see this in action.
Overall, the morning highlighted not only the pupils’ communication skills, but also their curiosity and willingness to engage with important issues.
