Live Music at Leicester High: The Mercians Bring Energy and Wellbeing to Years 6–10

We were delighted to welcome The Mercians to Leicester High School for Girls for a live, interactive session with students in Years 6–10.

For an hour, the hall felt more like a concert venue than a school. The girls experienced the energy of live music up close – something many had not experienced before in such an intimate setting. It was lively, engaging and, most importantly, uplifting.

The session was designed with wellbeing in mind. At a point in the term when lessons, assessments and commitments can begin to feel intense, it was an opportunity for students to pause, enjoy the moment and simply relax. Music has a powerful ability to lift mood and reduce stress, and this session certainly achieved that.

What made the visit particularly special was how interactive it was. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about life as musicians, songwriting and performing. There was real curiosity in the room, and the band were generous and open in their responses.

The excitement didn’t end when the final song finished. The girls were thrilled to receive signed posters, take selfies and chat informally with the band. Those small moments often become the ones they remember most.

Providing experiences like this is an important part of school life. Academic focus remains central, but so too does creating space for joy, creativity and shared experiences. This session offered all three.

A huge thank you to The Mercians for bringing such positivity and energy into our school community.
