Support for Every Girl

Outstanding pastoral care sits at the heart of everything we do.

Our small class sizes allow staff to know every girl well, recognising her strengths, supporting her challenges and helping her grow in confidence.

For girls who require additional support, our dedicated SEND Coordinator works closely with families and teachers to ensure appropriate provision is in place. Early identification, personalised support and strong communication with parents help every girl thrive.

At Leicester High School for Girls, every child is known, valued and inspired to be her best.

Moving from Junior School to Senior School

One of the unique advantages of Leicester High School for Girls is our carefully planned transition into Senior School.

Girls begin Year 6 within the supportive Junior environment before gradually spending more time in the Senior School. They become familiar with specialist teachers, new routines and increased independence while continuing to benefit from the pastoral support they know and trust.

This gradual approach helps girls feel confident, prepared and excited about the next stage of their education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Leicester High School a primary school?

Yes. Our Junior School provides independent primary education for girls aged 3–11, combining excellent teaching, outstanding pastoral care and a wide range of enrichment opportunities.

Why choose a girls-only primary school?

Research shows that girls in single-sex schools are often more willing to participate, take leadership roles and explore a wide range of interests without gender stereotypes influencing their choices. Our girls are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning from an early age.

How large are the classes?

We keep class sizes small so that every girl is known as an individual. This allows teachers to provide personalised support, challenge and encouragement tailored to each pupil.

Do you provide school lunches?

Yes, this is included in the fees. Girls enjoy freshly prepared lunches each day, served in the Junior Hall.

Do you offer before and after school care?

Yes. Before School Care is available from 7.30am and After School Care runs until 6.00pm, providing flexible support for busy families.

How do you support girls with additional learning needs?

Our dedicated SEND Coordinator works closely with parents, teachers and pupils to provide personalised support where needed. Early identification and regular communication help ensure every girl can thrive.

How does transition to Senior School work?

As an all-through school, we are able to provide a gradual and carefully supported transition. During Year 6, girls begin spending more time in the Senior School, becoming familiar with teachers, routines and expectations before moving into Year 7.

Can I visit the Junior Department?

Absolutely. We encourage families to arrange a personal visit so they can meet our staff and pupils, see lessons in action and experience the warm and supportive atmosphere that makes Leicester High School for Girls so special.
