How to Apply

Leicester High School for Girls welcomes applications for girls aged 3–18. Most pupils join us in September at the start of the academic year, but we also welcome in-year applications where places are available.

Our admissions process is clear and supportive. Families are encouraged to visit the school, meet our staff and pupils, and speak with our Admissions Team before applying.

The usual process is:

  1. Visit the school or attend an open event
  2. Register your daughter
  3. Complete the relevant assessment or entrance examination
  4. Receive an offer, where a place is available
  5. Complete induction and transition arrangements

The process may vary slightly for Junior Department, Senior School, Sixth Form and international applicants.

Visit us

The best way to understand Leicester High is to visit.

Families are warmly encouraged to book a personal tour or attend one of our open events. This gives you the opportunity to meet staff and pupils, see the school in action and ask questions about your daughter’s possible next step.

During a visit, you can:

  • meet members of staff
  • see lessons and school life
  • discuss year group entry points
  • ask questions about admissions
  • talk about your daughter’s individual needs

Registering your daughter

After visiting or speaking with our Admissions Team, families can complete the online registration form.

Registration allows us to begin the formal admissions process and to gather the information we need to support your daughter’s application.

Our Admissions Team will guide you through the next steps and explain any assessment, interview or taster arrangements that may be required.

Junior Department entry

For pupils applying to the Junior Department, the admissions process is designed to be age-appropriate and supportive.

Depending on the year group, this may include a visit, informal assessment, taster session or meeting with relevant staff. We want to understand each child as an individual and ensure Leicester High is the right environment for her.

Families will be guided clearly through the process by our Admissions Team.

Senior School entry

For entry into the Senior School, pupils may be invited to complete entrance assessments and attend a taster day.

This helps us understand each pupil’s academic profile, interests and readiness for Leicester High. It also gives your daughter the opportunity to experience school life, meet staff and pupils, and begin to feel comfortable in the environment.

We welcome applications for Year 7 and, where places are available, for other year groups.

Sixth Form entry

Students applying for Sixth Form will receive guidance on subject choices and their intended A Level pathway.

The process usually includes a review of academic progress, predicted or achieved GCSE grades, and a conversation about future ambitions. We want to ensure each student chooses a programme of study that supports her strengths, interests and future plans.

Sixth Form applicants are encouraged to visit, meet staff and discuss their subject options before making final choices.

In-year applications

We welcome in-year applications where places are available.

We understand that families may need to consider a school move for many reasons. Our Admissions Team will talk you through availability, timings, assessments and transition arrangements so that the process is as clear as possible.

Where a place is offered, we work carefully with pupils and families to support a smooth transition.

International applications

Leicester High School for Girls welcomes enquiries from international families and from trusted education agents supporting families overseas.

International applicants may complete parts of the admissions process remotely, where appropriate. This may include online meetings, school report review and entrance assessments.

Families relocating to Leicester are encouraged to speak with our Admissions Team as early as possible so that we can provide guidance on the application process and transition into school life.

Support for pupils with additional needs

We understand that our small school environment can work particularly well for some young people with additional needs.

Our SENDCo is happy to speak with families as part of the admissions process to discuss individual circumstances, support needs and whether Leicester High is the right setting for your daughter.

Where appropriate, we may request further information so that we can understand how best to support your daughter and make a careful, informed admissions decision.

Offers and accepting a place

Where a place is offered, families will receive clear information about the next steps, including acceptance paperwork, deposits and transition arrangements.

Once a place has been accepted, we will begin preparing for your daughter’s start at Leicester High.

Induction and transition

Starting a new school is an important step, and we want every pupil to feel welcomed and supported.

Transition arrangements may include:

  • communication with parents
  • meetings with key staff
  • taster sessions or induction activities
  • information about uniform, routines and expectations
  • support from form tutors and pastoral staff

Our aim is for each pupil to feel confident, settled and ready to begin school life at Leicester High.
