The cost for these personalised lessons typically ranges from £17 to £20 per session, ensuring you can receive tailored instruction and guidance on your musical path. Individual instrumental music teachers will invoice parents directly. Please note that our lessons are offered one-on-one to maximise your learning experience.

Ruth Proctor - Piano 

Ruth has been teaching piano and music theory privately to children and adults of all ages and abilities from beginner to Grade 8 and beyond for over ten years, with excellent results. She uses the ABRSM Exam Board. She holds three ABRSM Grade 8s in Piano, Music Theory and Flute, as well as a DipABRSM in Piano Teaching, an MA (Music), and a PGCE in Secondary Music Teaching. Ruth regularly accompanies RAD Ballet classes and examinations up to Vocational grades and directs and plays the organ for a local church choir.

Emma Trounson - Singing 

Emma is a singing and conducting teacher, choir conductor and soprano soloist. She is the Director of Music at St James the Greater Church, Leicester, conducting the Senior and Junior Choirs, and running the 'St James Choral Project' offering high-quality choral opportunities for local school children. She is also the Musical Director of Market Harborough Choral Society, Fosse Singers, Semper Singers and SoundCafe Choir. 

Emma studied Music and French at the University of Bristol and MA Choral Conducting at the  Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. She was formerly Director of Mission through Music at All Saints with Holy Trinity Church in Loughborough and a Choral Director at Leicester Cathedral. 

Performing highlights have included conducting Fosse Singers singing the National Anthems on the pitch for the Rugby World Cup matches, which took place in Leicester in 2015. She sang as part of the choir for the Re-interment of Richard III in Leicester Cathedral and has experienced multiple television and radio appearances as a soloist, conductor and choral singer.

Catherine Smith - Woodwind

Catherine studied Music Performance on the clarinet at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and also enjoyed developing her skills in doubling on Flute and Saxophone. In her youth, she enjoyed choral singing, performing with the CBSO Youth Chorus and the BBC Proms Youth Chorus for several years.

Since graduating, Catherine has been teaching in many different settings, delivering private woodwind lessons, whole-class instrumental learning, and early years' music programmes. Catherine performs freelance in the midlands, having played Reed parts in many shows. Catherine also enjoys playing Bass clarinet, playing in the Blackwood Clarinet Ensemble and as Principal Bass Clarinet at the NSWO.  

Catherine delivers music lessons full-time and can see the benefits of music education for all ages. After having so many inspirational teachers in her past, Catherine wishes to pass on the joy she felt learning music growing up.

Tobie Carpenter - Guitar

Tobie Carpenter holds a BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in Jazz & Electric Guitar, along with a DipL from LCM Trinity College London in Classical Guitar. With over 15 years of teaching experience spanning from primary to university levels, Tobie brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom. His expertise extends to group instruction, including whole class teaching and leading extra-curricular bands and orchestras.

Furthermore, Tobie boasts a commendable 5-year track record teaching composition at GCSE and A Level within a classroom setting. His commitment to nurturing students' love for music makes him an invaluable asset to any educational environment.

Julia Bound - Piano

Julia studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire, gaining a teaching diploma in the piano and violin. She also studied at Exeter University for a PGCE as a music specialist. 

Julia started as a music teacher in a junior school in Telford, but has now been teaching peripatetic music lessons for over 25 years at several schools in the Leicestershire area. Julia also teaches privately at home. Julia enjoys playing mostly classical and jazz music, including composers such as Debussy, Chopin and Einaudi. In her spare time, she enjoys walking my two dogs, yoga, gardening, knitting and reading.

Nick Bott - Drums

Nick is an accomplished musician with over 20 years of teaching experience. He spent a decade as a professional theatre musician, providing drums for national touring productions such as Blood Brothers and Whistle Down The Wind. Nick’s time in musical theatre culminated in two and a half years in London’s West End as drummer for Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He has also enjoyed success as part of a songwriting duo, playing multiple instruments and singing, appearing at festivals up and down the country and receiving airplay on BBC Radio. Nick enjoys teaching pupils of all ages and abilities and is happy working in a wide variety of styles and genres. He is one of the longest standing instrumental teachers at LHS having provided drum lessons in the school for over 15 years, helping many pupils achieve successful graded examinations.

Tamaki Higashi - Violin

Japanese violinist Tamaki Higashi is a passionate chamber musician and the founding member of the Villiers Quartet, a string quartet in residence at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. The Villiers Quartet performs regularly in the UK, Europe and the USA, has released several discs of British music on Somm, Naxos, Lyrita and Resonus Classics, and has broadcast widely on BBC Radio 3, BBC One and the Netherlands’s Classical Music Station. Tamaki’s chamber music career started with the Degas Quartet in the USA. They were the recipient of grants by Chamber Music of America and held a regional residency in Hickory, North Carolina, toured the nation appearing at major concert halls and music festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Library of Congress and Aspen Music Festival. Tamaki studied string quartet, playing with members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Takacs and Fine Arts quartets. 

Tamaki genuinely enjoys all aspects and genres of musical collaboration. She has worked with such distinguished musicians as Jazz bassist Christian McBride, Indian Tabla specialist Kuljit Bhamra and many of the finest musicians in chamber music.  

Tamaki studied violin with Lewis Kaplan and Muneko Otani, and viola with Jerry Horner, graduating from Mannes College of Music, New York.

Wendy Boswell - Piano and Woodwind

Wendy Boswell specialises in teaching piano and woodwind instruments, including the clarinet, saxophone, and flute. Her lessons focus on developing strong technique, with a particular emphasis on music theory and aural skills, aimed at fostering confident sight reading and independent learning. Whether students aspire to progress through ABRSM or Trinity Exam Grades or simply wish to learn for personal enrichment, Wendy is dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of music in her pupils. She carefully selects engaging and diverse repertoire to keep the learning experience exciting.

Wendy earned her Music Honours Degree from the University of Birmingham and holds Teaching Diplomas from both the Birmingham Conservatoire and London College of Music. In addition to her teaching, Wendy is an accomplished tenor saxophonist with the Bardi Wind Orchestra, a clarinettist with Musicamici, and regularly performs with other Midlands orchestras. She also serves as the pianist for The Willow Singers and has been the organist at St. Peter's Church, Claybrooke, since 2006, where she also directs the Benefice Choir. Wendy is a Full Member of the Independent Society of Musicians and holds Approved Private Teacher Status, an Enhanced Safeguarding Certificate, and Public Liability Insurance.

Alex Hewins - Brass

Born and brought up in Leicestershire, Alex studied music at University and followed this with a year of Postgraduate Studies at Trinity Music College. Working as a professional musician and teacher in the London area for 6 years, he taught brass at both primary and secondary schools and played with a wide range of groups including symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, big bands and show bands. A change of career saw him work for an environmental charity for a period and he returned to teaching brass 6 years ago. 

His musical interests and influences are broad, along with playing both classical (with the Bardi Orchestra in Leicester and several East Midlands chamber groups) and Jazz (with his quintet and several other groups). He composes and arranges music for some of the groups he plays with and has written a number of pieces for musicians starting on their musical journey which he uses in his teaching.

He currently teaches brass instruments at three schools in Leicester and uses his own resources in partnership with sympathetic publications to develop my students on their musical journey. He very much believes in teaching brass as a way to experience music-making as a whole. Each instrument has its own unique techniques to learn which can open up a window to a new musical experience for the student.

Clare Pitchford - Violin and Piano

Ms Clare Pitchford studied both the violin and piano at The Royal Academy of Music. Since then, she has performed with many professional orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, Northern Ballet, the English String orchestra, Scarborough Spa orchestra, and an opera orchestra in Italy, and has also played for the Queen with her string quartet! She has also worked for composers as a session player for film and TV. She currently freelances with different ensembles and runs Arioso Musicians, (www.ariosoquartet.co.uk), which provides live music for functions and concerts throughout Central England and beyond.

She has taught violin and piano in numerous schools, in both the state and private sectors. She currently teaches at two other private schools in the area, in addition to her work at Leicester High School in the Junior and Senior schools.

She enjoys teaching and working with pupils of all ages and standards and passing on her knowledge gained from many years of experience within the profession. She is a patient teacher and feels lessons should be fun and constructive. Pupils are prepared and entered for exams when required, for both the ABRSM, and Trinity Examination Boards, and her pupils have a 100% success rate, with most pupils achieving merit or distinction.

Anne Mee - Cello and Piano

Anne studied cello and piano at the Royal Academy of Music and when she left she started teaching privately. Anne then taught in various private schools in Leicestershire. I then studied for my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and became a class teacher in a special school for 23 years. During that time, she also played and sang in bands, performed concertos with the Knighton Chamber Orchestra and led the cello section of the Bardi Orchestra. Anne currently performs freelance in Leicester, Nottingham and Derby, plus plays in my family Ceilidh Band and conducts a small community orchestra. In her free time she loves to garden, walk in the fields near me and draw.  

Anne teaches Music full time as she has seen the evidence that it is a vital part of a child’s development. It promotes self-esteem, improves coordination and provides so much enjoyment. It’s fun!!
