Leicester High School for Girls Hosts Pilot Cooking Session with The Raft Charity

On Saturday, Leicester High School for Girls welcomed four care-experienced young people and their foster or adoptive parents for a special cooking session in partnership with The Raft Charity.
The pilot event, held from 11.00am to 1.30pm, brought together families for an enjoyable and practical experience in the School's Food Studies department.
During the session, participants prepared a delicious meal of creamy one-pot chicken and tomato pasta, accompanied by tear 'n' share garlic bread. Working together in the kitchen provided an opportunity for the young people and their carers to build confidence, develop new skills and spend quality time together.
The session was supported by Leicester High School for Girls' Head of Food Studies, who guided participants through the recipes and helped create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone involved.
The event marked the beginning of a new partnership between Leicester High School for Girls and The Raft Charity, which supports care-experienced young people and their families across Leicestershire. Following the success of this pilot session, plans are already underway to explore further opportunities for future workshops.
Head of Food Studies, Jenny Whalley, said:
"We were delighted to welcome The Raft Charity and the families they support to our Food Studies department. Cooking together is a wonderful way to develop practical skills, build confidence and strengthen relationships. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying the experience, and we look forward to hosting more sessions in the future."
