The Leicester High School for Girls community has come together in an extraordinary show of compassion and determination, raising an impressive £7,500 for the Children’s Ward at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, where one of their own pupils, Asiyah, received treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).
Asiyah was diagnosed in May 2024, and the news deeply affected staff, pupils, and families across the School. The Junior Department unanimously voted to dedicate their charity work for the year to Ward E39, where Asiyah received her care.
Events included a Disney-themed Bounceathon, bake sales, a Junior Disco, and the School’s cultural Fusion Festival, where Asiyah bravely gave a heartfelt thank you speech. Senior girls ran stalls at the Spring Fair and donated funds from their own events.
Proceeds from the Fusion Festival and the Spring Fair brought the final total to £7,500. The funds will provide much-needed storage for the playroom on Ward E39, as well as support complementary therapies for the children on the ward.
“This has been a wonderful example of our School community in action,” said Mrs Neuberg. “We are so proud of Asiyah, and of everyone who helped make this possible.”
The School is incredibly proud of Asiyah and everyone involved in making such a meaningful difference.
