Sixth Formers Lead Fun-Filled STEM Masterclasses for Local Pupils

Sixth Form students at Leicester High School for Girls delivered a series of hands-on workshops for local primary pupils on Saturday morning, as part of the Royal Institution’s Post-16 to Primary Masterclass series.

The girls led three exciting sessions:

  • Maths – exploring shape and volume, including how to calculate complex shapes and measure irregular objects.
  • Computing – an introduction to binary and how it’s used to code messages and images.
  • Science – uncovering the science of music, soundwaves, and why music affects how we feel.

Pupils enjoyed the interactive sessions and the chance to make new friends, while Sixth Formers developed valuable leadership and communication skills.

Mr Andrew McMurray, Head of Science, said: “Our students did a brilliant job inspiring and engaging the younger pupils. It was a real success for everyone involved.”

This event is part of the School’s wider outreach programme, aimed at encouraging a love of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) from an early age.
