Leicester High School for Girls held its annual Prize Giving Evening on a warm summer night filled with celebration, reflection, and inspiring words.
The evening began with performances showcasing the exceptional musical talent of our students and a beautiful welcome from Year 13 student Chioma, followed by a heartfelt address from Headmaster Mr Alan Whelpdale. Former Head Girl Millie and former Deputy Head Girl Shivani gave inspiring speeches about their journeys at Leicester High, sharing fond memories and the impact the School has had on their lives.
This year’s Guest Speaker was Gosia McBride, Principal Clerk for the Select Committees at the House of Commons. Her speech on leadership and resilience resonated deeply with pupils, staff, and families.
Awards were presented across all year groups in recognition of academic excellence, personal achievement, and outstanding contributions to School life. The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the prestigious Headmaster’s Award, given this year to Shivani for her exceptional character and her contribution to the life of the School.
Reflecting on the occasion, Deputy Head John Partridge, said: “Prize Giving is always a special evening, but this one felt particularly meaningful. It was a wonderful celebration of our pupils’ achievements and a heartfelt farewell to Mr Whelpdale, whose dedication has shaped the School in so many positive ways.”
Guests enjoyed a selection of canapés served outside, providing a lovely opportunity to relax, reflect, and continue the celebrations together.
