Year 6 Bring The Tempest to Life in Stratford-upon-Avon
Year 6 stepped into the world of Shakespeare during a fantastic visit to Mary Arden’s Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, as part of their study of The Tempest.
The girls had the opportunity to explore the story beyond the classroom and discover more about Shakespeare’s life, his world and some of the influences behind his writing.
Working with two expert guides, the girls explored The Tempest through six key scenes, learning more about the background to the play and its characters before bringing the story to life themselves.
There was plenty of acting involved, with the girls throwing themselves into their roles and using facial expressions, gestures and movement to convey the characters and emotions of the play. Their enthusiasm certainly made an impression - the guides told them they were the best group they had ever had!
The visit also gave Year 6 the chance to explore the historic farm and experience another side of life in Shakespeare’s time - including meeting some piglets!
It was a wonderful way for the girls to immerse themselves in Shakespeare’s world, combining English, history and drama and helping The Tempest leap from the page into life.
