Leicester High School Early Years Highly Commended in Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026

The Early Years team at Leicester High School for Girls has been Highly Commended in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026, recognising its dedication to giving girls the best possible start to their education.
The awards celebrate excellence in teaching across the UK, recognising educators who make an exceptional difference to children's lives.
As part of the recognition, acclaimed children's author Sir Michael Morpurgo, President of the Pearson National Teaching Awards, sent a personal message to the team.
"The work you do day in, day out is life enhancing, life changing," he said, adding that great teachers "open doors, shine a light."
At Leicester High School for Girls, the Early Years team helps girls develop confidence, independence and a love of learning through creative activities, purposeful play and individual attention.
Laura Heywood, Early Years Lead, said:
"We are absolutely delighted to receive this recognition. Our team is passionate about giving every girl the very best start to her education, helping her feel happy, confident and excited about learning. To have our work recognised nationally means a great deal to all of us."
John Partridge, Headteacher, said:
"We are incredibly proud of our Early Years team. These first years are so important in helping children develop curiosity, confidence and a love of learning. Our team creates an environment where girls feel secure enough to explore, try new things and become increasingly independent. It is wonderful to see their work recognised nationally."
