Exploring Chaucer with a Leading Academic

Leicester High School for Girls was delighted to welcome Professor Dr Thomas Honegger of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, one of the most renowned academic experts in Medieval English, for a special A-level lecture exploring the topics of Chaucer and Medieval English society.
A-Level English Literature students and a selected group of Year 10 students were joined by invited students from Leicester Grammar School for the Medieval workshop. Students enjoyed a fascinating lecture exploring the historical and cultural context of 'The Merchant's Tale', as well as engaging in a lively debate about the moral messages behind the story. Professor Honegger’s expertise brought the text to life, prompting thoughtful discussion and original insights, which were valuable for A-Level study.
Dr Nina Taylor, Head of English, commented: 'We were thrilled to host Professor Honegger for the A-Level lecture, which formed a valuable part of our school's academic enrichment programme. As a leading academic, his expertise and knowledge were invaluable for the students, who were encouraged to think critically and evaluate challenging discussion points.'
