Year 12 and 13 English Literature students from Leicester High School for Girls visited the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon to watch a production of Hamlet.
This adaptation set the play aboard the Titanic in 1912, offering a different perspective on its themes. The staging provided an alternative interpretation of the text, allowing students to consider new angles on Shakespeare’s work.
Following the performance, students attended a post-show Q&A with renowned actor Anton Lesser, who played the ghost of Old Hamlet.
Mrs Wallis, Head of English, commented: "The trip was a useful experience for the Sixth Form literature students, offering them an opportunity to see the play performed and hear from an experienced actor about his interpretation of the text."
The English Department at Leicester High School for Girls continues to provide outstanding literary enrichment opportunities that inspire a deep appreciation for literature and the arts.
