Leicester High School for Girls Marks Remembrance Day

Leicester High School for Girls marked Remembrance Day with a moving and thought-provoking assembly, exploring how we can keep the act of remembrance meaningful for future generations.

Students reflected on the lasting impact of World War One, discovering surprising innovations such as the vegetarian sausage and the teabag, alongside the often-forgotten contributions of soldiers from India, Canada and Africa who served on the Western Front.

The assembly also celebrated the winners of the School’s Forgotten Voices of the Western Front competition, Gabrielle and Adhya, whose moving pieces honoured the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Every entry will now be submitted to the national competition, with the chance to be featured at a national service of remembrance next year.

At 11am, the whole school came together in a moment of silence – a powerful act of unity, reflection and gratitude, showing the compassion, confidence and leadership our girls demonstrate each day.
